That's sets an ugly precedent. Semin not worth 7million a year. The cap is going down next year....right? |

I like him, but that's insane - 1 year at $7 mil made sense for this year, should have been able to negotiate a lower salary with the 5 year term. |

Dont like that signing - Joshc
Ownership like this is what is wrong with the NHL. Now every player better than Semin(and there are many) will use this contract as a bargining chip and the third & fourth line players will have to play for next to nothing.
Wake up owners you are ruining the game |

While I won't pretend that I didn't think the annual salary would be a little lower, this is not the end of the world. The point is not that he's only been here for 30 games (in which he has been a PPG player and is posting a +18). The point is that the players like him, he fits in, and, above all else, he and E. Staal have shown tremendous chemistry. THAT is what this is about, surrounding our captain with talent that he clicks with.
And who here can honestly say that, with the scoring clip he is on, that were he to hit the open market he would not get $6-7 million? And leave the cap going down argument out of it because we all know that teams find a way, for better or for worse. The bottom line is that he has proven to be a good fit here, JR ponied up what he felt he needed to, and this is far from the worst contract in the league.
Move on. |

Most of you are delusional to how valuable of a player is, and what price must be paid to getting a point per game player. If he hits the open market he gets more. He is a superstar talent/ and player. He is the main reason for E Staals resurrection, a full season I see them both bringing in around 90-100 points for the next 3-4 years. He's the reason people know who Tlustly is. It is not nearly as bad as the Getzlaf or Perry contracts. If you had to ask me who I'd rather have contract aside I still may take Semin then both of them. |

8 goals, 22 assists. He's hit the goal post at least 5-6 times as well, if not more. |
|
|
|
more like 5-6 times a game. But in all seriousness probably has around 10-15 posts this year. |
|
|
|
that's insanity.
really validates a lockout when the owners are still backing up the money trucks dishing out ridiculous contracts like that. wow is that bad. |

You always have to adjust for that strange Canadien vs. Russian bias.
Semin's career numbers are slightly better than Perry's. Both are coming off similar disappointing seasons last year. They are similar in age. Both are having good 2013 campaigns with good chemistry on very good 1st lines that are producing though Semin does get the slight nod stats-wise. Both are on the last year of their current deal and only about 3 months away from UFA status if the GM waits. And Perry's inability to control his temper past what most learn at the age of about 5 has him playing his entire career on the very edge of Sean Averyness.
But somehow Semin's $1.6M discount over 3 fewer years is ludicrous.
